Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma’s form in the ongoing IPL 2023 season is a huge concern, especially with the World Test Championship final and 2023 ODI World Cup knocking at the door. The MI captain has scored only 184 runs in nine matches which came at a strike rate of 129.57 in the 16th edition of the cash-rich league so far as well. Moreover, in MI’s last game against PBKS, he failed to open his account and equalled the record for most ducks by a batter in the history of the tournament – tied with Dinesh Karthik, Mandeep Singh and Sunil Narine, with 15 ducks as well.
While speaking about his batting, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra said that Rohit Sharma is getting out on short-pitch deliveries, which was not the case earlier. “Rohit Sharma got out. I am still thinking if he is selling himself too short. I think he is. This shot is unbecoming of him – why? He was trying to jump out and hit in the first over and got out,” Chopra stated in the AakashVani show on JioCinema.

He also shared that he was surprised to see Mumbai Indians play with only three foreigners, even when their bowling unit has not done well so far this season. The veteran also stated that he was quite surprised to see Mumbai Indians use Suryakumar Yadav as their impact player.
“Then Suryakumar Yadav came with Ishan Kishan. Suryakumar Yadav was the Impact Player. I was a little surprised because only three overseas players were in their XI. Jason Behrendorff was available but they didn’t play him. Mumbai played with only three overseas even though their bowling has been very pedestrian,” Aakash Chopra concluded.
