The race for the IPL 2023 playoffs intensified after Rajasthan Royals (RR) locked horns with Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the recently concluded contest of the tournament, on Friday, May 19, and knocked PBKS out of the tournament. It was a must-win match for both teams as the result would have decided their fate in the tournament, and Rajasthan kept their hopes alive, eventually.

But even then, Gujarat Titans (GT) remain to be the only team to have qualified as the remaining three places are still vacant. It has been a rollercoaster ride for teams in IPL 2023 and every team is putting in efforts to make it to the top four. The tournament is at a stage where no one can predict which three teams will be joining GT in the knockout stage, and hence former cricketer Aakash Chopra came up with a suggestion.

The ace commentator proposed a couple of changes that could be taken into consideration from the 17th edition of the cash-rich event. He said that the teams should get bonus points if they win the match by a huge margin, and also, the games in the final leg of the tournament should take place simultaneously so that members of the teams aren’t stressed about the results of other teams.

In his tweet, Aakash Chopra wrote: “There are two changes that I’d propose for next season’s IPL 1. Introduction of the Bonus Points for winning a game with a huge margin. NRR is absolute but over 14 games is a tough math to understand. Bonus point is a tangible reward for playing significantly better.”

He further added, “And also, keeps the interest alive for longer. 2. Provision of starting the games in the final leg at the same time. Today, LSG has the advantage of knowing the exact math to go over CSK on NRR…because CSK plays first. Same for tomorrow depending on today’s results. Thoughts welcome.”
