During the second ODI of Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand in 1994 at Eden Park, Auckland, Pakistan’s opening batsman, Aamer Sohail, was involved in an amusing incident whilst he was batting in the middle.

Ken Rutherford, the then New Zealand captain, had won the toss and elected to field first. Pakistan were bundled out on 146 in 43.3 overs. Sohail was the pick of the Pakistani batsman as he scored 48 (92) with the help of four fours.

On the back of Wasim Akram’s Man-of-the-Match performance, Pakistan gained a 2-0 lead in the five-match series as they defeated New Zealand (110-10 in 44.3 overs) by 36 runs. Akram had registered bowling figures of 7.3-0-23-4.

One of Danny Morrison’s delivery slipped off his hands and never really reached Sohail, who was batting at that time. What followed was a serious riot of laughter, something whose effect was felt even in the Pakistani dressing room.
