Aaron Finch and David Warner Open up on Australia’s COVID-19 Measures

Australia’s limited-overs captain Aaron Finch and opener David Warner have raised concerns over the effectiveness of the self-isolation policy of the Australia government to restrict the COVID-19 pandemic. The Australian government had already announced that whoever reaching in the country from overseas will have to be in the self-isolate for 14 days starting Sunday midnight (March 15) owing to the spread of the novel coronavirus. However, many were confused regarding the precaution.

An Australian sports journalist Veronica Eggleton tweeted: “Genuine question – how does the government know if new arrivals are actually self-isolating?”

Aaron Finch re-tweeted Eggleton’s tweet adding “Have been wondering the same thing!!” While his teammate David Warner also rreplied with another query, “Or, what about the uber/taxi/bus/train they catch from the airport to their place.”

The novel coronavirus has claimed over 6,000 lives and infected close to 160,000 people across the globe. The virus affected heavily on the sports events worldwide in that time of the year when several quadrennial events like the Olympics, Euro 2020 and Copa America were scheduled to take place.

Players all over the world are back at home. On Monday, former New Zealand pacer Mitchell McClenaghan, who was among several foreign players who left the ongoing Pakistan Super League for the imposed rules in the country, posted a picture of himself self-isolating at home.

“Straight home into isolation, get home to this note from my legendary wife who’s gone to stay with her parents for a few weeks. See you guys in 14 days,” he tweeted.

Along with the international series, domestic cricket all over the world also got postponed or cancelled. Australia’s ODI series against New Zealand was cancelled after the first match whereas India’s ODI series against South Africa too was called off. Both series were about to take place without fans before being cancelled fully.

On the other hand, England’s tour of Sri Lanka was also postponed before the beginning of the two-match Test series whereas the upcoming edition of the cash-rich tournament – Indian Premier League (IPL) also witnessed a delayed start as it has also been suspended till April 15.
