Virat Kohli, India’s star batsman, remains a pivotal figure in the upcoming ODI World Cup, scheduled to commence on October 5th in Ahmedabad. Over the past year, India has participated in two major tournaments, the Asia Cup and the T20I World Cup, where Kohli showcased remarkable cricketing prowess and emerged as India’s leading run-scorer.
His ability to thrive under pressure and deliver outstanding performances has earned him a reputation as a match-winner, and expectations are high for his performance in the upcoming global tournament. Reflecting on Kohli’s journey as a player, his former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) teammate, AB de Villiers, shed light on Kohli’s ability to learn and adapt from coaches and teammates, constantly striving to improve his game.
AB de Villiers, the former South African captain, highlighted the significant role played by Mark Boucher in shaping Kohli’s cricketing journey during his formative years. He expressed anticipation about witnessing Kohli’s exceptional contributions in the ODI World Cup.

“I think everyone matures with age. As you grow, you learn a lot from experienced players and you realize that they’re not just your opponents but calm and relaxed individuals. Virat is smart, and he has picked things from some coaches as well as teammates,” AB de Villiers expressed on his YouTube channel.
He further added, “Mark Boucher had a crucial role to play at RCB when Virat was young, and hopefully, I too had a good influence on him as a friend. He has found that right balance, and I can’t wait to see him in the World Cup doing special things for Team India.”
Despite his stature as one of the world’s premier batsmen, Kohli is yet to showcase his signature class in the ongoing Asia Cup. He faced dismissal by Shaheen Shah Afridi in the match against Pakistan and did not have an opportunity to bat against Nepal. As India prepares to once again face Pakistan in the Super 4 stage of the competition, the stage is set for Kohli to rise to the occasion, much like his exceptional performances in the last edition of the T20I World Cup.
