The anticipation in the cricketing world is palpable as Rishabh Pant gears up for his much-awaited return to competitive cricket in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. After a harrowing accident in December 2022 that left him with multiple injuries, the 26-year-old has undergone extensive rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, finally receiving clearance to participate in the 17th season of the IPL as a wicketkeeper-batter.
Cricket enthusiasts worldwide are eagerly awaiting the flamboyant cricketer’s comeback. AB de Villiers, one of the IPL’s legendary figures, shared his excitement about Pant’s return, expressing his anticipation to witness the Delhi-born cricketer back in action.

In a video on his YouTube channel, AB de Villiers remarked, “The son of Delhi will be watched by thousands around India and around the globe again and by me…It’s great to have him back.” De Villiers, who used to don the No. 17 jersey, similar to Pant, shared a special connection with the young talent. Reflecting on their shared jersey number, De Villiers expressed hope for Pant to replicate his past success in IPL 2024, aiming for multiple centuries.
Rishabh Pant’s memorable IPL century came in 2018 against Sunrisers Hyderabad when he smashed an unbeaten 128 runs from just 63 balls. De Villiers reminisced about Pant’s remarkable innings and envisioned a season filled with similar stellar performances.
“He’s got number 17 on his back; I used to have 17 on my back. There’s a bit of chemistry, and I absolutely love watching this guy play. He scored an IPL hundred, maybe this will be the season for number two, three, maybe even four,” AB de Villiers added optimistically.
