Suryakumar Yadav’s brilliance in T20 cricket is unquestionable — his numbers and match-winning performances make him one of India’s most explosive white-ball batters. Yet, the mystery remains: why hasn’t “SKY” been able to replicate that same magic in ODIs? The Mumbai-born star recently admitted that he’s still searching for the right balance between his aggressive T20 mindset and the demands of the one-day format.

Despite getting a fair run in ODIs ahead of the 2023 World Cup, Suryakumar Yadav struggled to cement his place in the playing XI. It’s now been nearly two years since his last ODI appearance, even as he continues to dominate T20 internationals — a format where he now proudly leads Team India as captain.

In a recent YouTube chat with journalist Vimal Kumar, Suryakumar Yadav opened up about his desire to seek advice from South African legend AB de Villiers, who remains the gold standard for adapting across various formats.

“If I meet him soon, I want to ask how he managed to balance T20I and ODI cricket,” Suryakumar Yadav said. “I thought ODIs should be played like T20s, but that hasn’t worked for me. AB, if you’re listening, please get in touch quickly — the next few years are very important for me. I’m eager to make my mark in ODIs.”

Responding warmly, AB de Villiers promised to prepare a thoughtful reply for India’s T20 skipper. “I have a lot of questions for him as well,” De Villiers said on his YouTube channel. “I’ll do my homework before answering. It’s about finding that balance — ODIs demand patience and calculation, while T20s are about instinct. I’ll make sure to give SKY a good answer.”

As fans anticipate this exciting mentorship, one thing is clear — if anyone can guide Suryakumar Yadav to master both formats, it’s the man they call Mr. 360.
