Rohit Sharma’s rough patch with the bat extended yet again during Match 63 of IPL 2025, as the former Mumbai Indians skipper fell cheaply against Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium on May 21. Opening the innings alongside Ryan Rickelton in a high-stakes game, Rohit failed to get going and was dismissed for just 5 runs off 5 deliveries.

The veteran right-hander never looked settled at the crease. In the third over, Mustafizur Rahman—Delhi’s wily left-arm seamer—bowled a smart 132.4 kmph delivery. It was a full, scrambled seam ball angling away outside off-stump, tempting Rohit to go big over mid-on. However, all he managed was a thick outside edge. Wicketkeeper Abishek Porel flew to his right and took a stunning two-handed catch, silencing the home crowd and giving DC an early breakthrough.

Rohit’s struggles against Mustafizur are well documented. Across 12 T20 innings, the Indian opener has scored only 122 runs off the Bangladeshi pacer, averaging 30.50 at a strike rate of 167.12, while falling to him four times. The left-armer’s angle and change-ups continue to cause trouble for Rohit, especially in the powerplay.

Rohit’s woes against left-arm seamers aren’t limited to just Mustafizur. Since the 2024 edition of the IPL, he has faced 95 deliveries from left-arm pacers during the powerplay and managed only 150 runs at a strike rate of 157.89 and an average of 18.75, having been dismissed eight times.

Overall, in his IPL career, Rohit Sharma has faced 566 balls from left-arm pacers, scoring 765 runs at an average of just 23.18 while being dismissed 33 times. The numbers underline a persistent pattern—one that continues to haunt one of India’s finest white-ball openers.
