The captain of this young Team India, Shubman Gill, applauded Abhishek Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad’s stunning knocks as pivotal to their comeback win against Zimbabwe on July 7. However, Abhishek Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 137-run partnership after the early dismissal of Gill, helped India post a huge total of 234 runs against the Zimbabwe bowling attack, who were brilliant in the opening T20I of the five-match series. Shubman also praised the duo and said the two were magnificent to watch as well.
However, soon after clinching the 2024 T20 World Cup title, Team India’s veteran players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from the T20 format. Meanwhile, this young team lost their first match to Sikander Raza-led Zimbabwe on July 6 as well. But they bounced back well where Abhishek hit his maiden T20I century in just 47 balls, and Ruturaj did well with his brilliant 77 off 46 balls knock.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Shubman Gill said, “Very happy, great to be back on the winning note back again. With the way Abhishek and Rutu batted, it was not easy especially in the powerplay, with the ball moving around but Abhi and Rutu built the innings brilliantly. Yesterday, it was more about not being able to handle the pressure, it’s a young side and many of them are new to international exposure.”

” It was actually good to have pressure in the first game and we knew what to expect coming into this game. We have got three matches to go and we are looking forward to them. It’s always good to have more options rather than not having options,” Shubman Gill further added.
After the batting brilliance, the bowlers did well too. Avesh Khan, Ravi Bishnoi and Mukesh Kumar helped India bundle Zimbabwe out within 134 runs. India have now levelled the series 1-1, and they will try to win the 3rd T20I as well on July 10.
