In recent times, India’s recent 4-1 victory over England in the five-match T20I series has seen two players in particular, Abhishek Sharma and Varun Chakravarthy, significantly better their positioning in the ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings. Strong performances throughout the series made both players well-worthy of such recognition.

Abhishek Sharma, one of the game’s brightest stars and a pivotal performer for India in the Wankhede Stadium final, blasted an explosive 135 off 54 balls that put him into the record books as one of India’s most promising young players. He rose 38 places in the rankings to end second behind Australia’s Travis Head. Abhishek has also taken over the second place from his team-mate Tilak Verma, who held the second place.

The series also witnessed some spectacular performances by bowlers, such as the brilliance of Varun Chakravarthy, which gave him a huge leap in rankings as well. Chakravarthy’s 14 wickets from the series and two crucial wickets in the last two games helped him to rise three places, thereby standing second in the rankings, with a tie, thanks to Adil Rashid of England. Rashid, who had led the table last week for a day, is now dethroned by Akeal Hosein.
