Punjab all-rounder, the talented Abhishek Sharma, has really been doing no wrong the entire 2024 and at the domestic and international levels. His breakout season in the Indian Premier League for Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier this year earned him a maiden call-up to the Indian national team for the T20I tour of Zimbabwe. The disappointment of debut duck was compensated in an outstanding century in the second match itself with an innings that not only proved him to be talented but also looked quite promising.
Abhishek spoke at length about the overwhelming response from male and female fans while speaking to some reporters in the recent past. He said fan-support and admirers are a big boost to his confidence.
“It’s not just female attention; I have got a lot of attention from males too. It feels good, though. These are the moments which motivate any cricketer or celebrity. I got many good luck and congratulatory messages from various people,” Abhishek Sharma revealed while featuring on the YouTube channel ‘Second Innings with Manjot Kalra’.

Playing an important role in carrying Sunrisers Hyderabad into the finals, Abhishek collected 484 runs from 14 games during that season, making them count at a whopping strike rate of 204.22. The 23-year-old thanked the team’s skipper, Pat Cummins, for his supportive leadership and the freedom he gave to the players.
“He came after winning the World Cup for Australia. The aura of Pat Cummins was very evident within the team. He would talk to everyone, asking the new players about their families and such things. He gave everyone complete freedom,” said Abhishek Sharma.

Abhishek’s ultra-effective opening partnership with Travis Head is actually one of the most dynamic pairs in IPL 2024. What was agonizingly painful for some of the world’s in-theory finest bowlers in the game was the duo’s comparatively rare range of power-hitting.
Reflecting on this successful partnership, Abhishek Sharma mentioned, “My plan was very clear. I will play my natural game freely. I had the idea that Travis Head also plays with a similar approach, as I had followed him for a long time, but never did I know that if I am hitting, he will also hit. We adapted very quickly and there was never a moment where we thought that a particular bowling was troubling us.”
