In a jaw-dropping display of batting prowess, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) rewrote the record books with a staggering total of 277/3 against Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2024 action on March 27. The match witnessed an electrifying partnership between Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, setting the stage for SRH’s historic innings.

Reflecting on his partnership with Head, Abhishek Sharma expressed his admiration for the Australian batsman, stating, “When I was batting with Travis Head, he was one of my favourite batters. I enjoyed batting with him.” Their explosive partnership, characterized by relentless boundary-hitting, laid the foundation for SRH’s imposing total.

Head’s blistering 18-ball fifty, followed by Abhishek Sharma’s lightning-fast 16-ball half-century, underscored SRH’s dominance at the crease. Abhishek, modest in his acknowledgment of the record, remarked, “To be honest, I didn’t realize it was the fastest fifty for SRH. I just wanted to go out and express myself. After getting out, I realized it was the quickest. And of course, I enjoyed it.”

The onslaught commenced early in the innings, with Head’s brutal assault on MI bowler Kwena Maphaka in the third over, yielding 22 runs, including two towering sixes and two boundaries. Abhishek then took over the charge, dismantling the MI attack with aggressive stroke play.

By the time the dynamic duo departed in the 11th over, SRH had amassed a formidable total of 161/3. Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen continued the onslaught, propelling SRH to their record-breaking score. Despite MI’s valiant efforts, led by Tilak Varma’s spirited knock of 64 off 34 balls, they fell short by 31 runs, ending with 246/5.

Abhishek Sharma also credited the positive mindset instilled by the captain and coaching staff, emphasizing the importance of expressing oneself on the field. “In the meeting we had before the match, the message was pretty simple. Just go out and express yourself. Because that’s a very positive message from the captain and coach. For this match also, it was pretty much the same. Just go out and express yourself,” he concluded.
