Star Indian opener Abhishek Sharma once again stole the spotlight in the Asia Cup 2025 before a moment of miscommunication with skipper Suryakumar Yadav dramatically ended his innings. The left-hander, who has been in sizzling form throughout the tournament, was run out for a blistering 75 off just 37 balls, laced with six fours and five towering sixes.

The incident unfolded during India’s second Super Four clash against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Stadium. Abhishek had built another promising opening stand with Shubman Gill, setting the tone for India’s dominance early in the innings. His fearless stroke play kept the scoreboard ticking and once again underlined why he has been India’s most consistent batter in the tournament.

However, his dismissal came in unfortunate circumstances. Suryakumar played a crisp cut shot through point, initially called for a quick single, and then changed his mind. By that time, Abhishek had already sprinted halfway down the pitch. Quick-thinking fielder Rishad Hossain reacted sharply, collecting and firing a direct throw at the non-striker’s end, catching the dangerous batter short of his crease.

Despite the dismissal, Abhishek remains the tournament’s leading run-scorer and continues to shape India’s unbeaten run. After his match-winning knock against Pakistan earlier, this innings further showcased his ability to anchor and accelerate with ease. His performances are now drawing comparisons to India’s finest modern-day openers, proving he is rapidly becoming the backbone of India’s batting lineup.
