Abhishek Sharma produced a batting masterclass on Sunday night as India outclassed Pakistan in their first Super 4 clash of the Asia Cup 2025 in Dubai. Chasing 172, the young left-hander stamped his authority from the very first ball, smashing Shaheen Shah Afridi for a towering six. He then went on to script history by registering the fastest half-century by an Indian against Pakistan in T20Is, breaking Yuvraj Singh’s long-standing record.
Though he fell agonizingly short of a maiden century, his blistering 74 off just 39 deliveries—studded with six boundaries and five sixes—was enough to earn him the Player of the Match award. For Abhishek’s family, seated proudly in the Dubai International Stadium, the night was unforgettable. His sister, brimming with joy, expressed her emotions to PTI after the match.
“I am truly proud today. Honestly, I can’t even describe the feeling. This is the third or fourth Asia Cup match we’ve attended, but witnessing an India vs Pakistan clash where Abhishek played so well—it’s like a dream. He was named Man of the Match, and that says it all. For us, the sky is the limit for him, and I believe he’ll achieve even greater things,” she said with a smile.

She further added that the family is eagerly waiting for Abhishek’s maiden international hundred. “He’s already made us so proud, but that first century is coming very soon. We’re ready to celebrate even bigger moments.”

On the field, Abhishek combined with childhood friend Shubman Gill to dismantle Pakistan’s pace attack. The pair added a blistering 105-run opening stand, with Gill contributing a fluent 47 off 28 balls. Their assault on Haris Rauf and Shaheen Afridi ensured that the pressure never shifted back to India. Earlier, Shivam Dube’s twin strikes had pegged Pakistan back after a fiery start.

Tilak Varma then played a composed cameo, finishing unbeaten on 30 off 19, as India sealed the chase in just 18.5 overs. The victory not only strengthened India’s Super 4 campaign but also highlighted Abhishek Sharma’s meteoric rise as a match-winner on the biggest stage.
