Mohammad Asif, who will turn 35 in December, is running out of time to press for a case of an international comeback. The right-arm fast-medium bowler, who was known for his ability to swing the cricket ball, lost what could have been his prime years on the cricket field after he was banned for being involved in spot-fixing in 2010.

Before that offence, Asif had dismissed some of the greats of the game with his ability with the ball. He had it in him to swing the ball both ways. Bringing the ball into the right-handed batsman was his most successful ploy.

Asif made his international debut during the New Year’s test of Pakistan tour of Australia in 2004-05 at Sydney. Later in December, he was handed his ODI cap against England at Rawalpindi. In the following year, Asif made his T20I debut against the same opposition at Bristol.

In 23 Test matches, Asif picked up 106 wickets at an average of 24.36, an economy rate of 2.99 and a strike rate of 48.7. In 38 ODIs, he picked up 46 wickets at an average of 33.13, an economy rate of 4.71 and a strike rate of 42.1. In 11 T20Is, he picked up 13 wickets at an average of 26.38, an economy rate of 8 and a strike rate of 19.7.
