Former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma, who led the Mumbai Indians to five Indian Premier League (IPL) titles during his tenure as captain between 2013 and 2023, recently joined a podcast, which was co-hosted by former Australia wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist and ex-England captain Michael Vaughan as well. He shared many things including the upcoming T20 World Cup, his journey with the Mumbai Indians and a potential Test match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan.
However, Adam Gilchrist asked the Team India skipper about the songs of all the IPL franchises right now compared to when the IPL started as well as its initial days.
“Ro, one last thing about those halcyon days, the early days of the IPL. Have you, in the 16 editions since the first one, heard a better team song than we had at the Deccan Chargers? Without a doubt, that was the best song ever for an IPL team. Do you remember it?”, asked Adam Gilchrist.
“Yeah, I remember a little bit because I have been hearing all of these teams now singing songs. It’s shown on television, let alone social media, but it’s being shown on television. But no, I genuinely don’t feel that any other teams doing the songs now are even close to what we used to do,” replied Rohit Sharma.
However, Gilchrist played the famous Deccan Chargers anthem from 2008. Notably, Rohit and Gilchrist played for the Deccan Chargers from 2008, the inaugural edition, to 2010 as well. Gilchrist took over the reins as captain from VVS Laxman and led them to the IPL title in 2009. Defending a 144-run target against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2009 final, they had secured a stunning six-run win to lift the trophy as well.
