In the run-up to the highly anticipated ODI World Cup, the Indian cricket team has been facing the absence of their explosive wicketkeeper-batter, Rishabh Pant, due to an unfortunate car accident in December. Pant’s unavailability has raised questions about who will take up the gloves for the Indian team in the prestigious event.
While the versatile KL Rahul is poised to handle wicketkeeping duties, the dynamic Ishan Kishan is expected to contribute primarily as a middle-order batter. Reflecting on Pant’s meteoric rise in the cricketing world, former Australian wicketkeeping legend Adam Gilchrist acknowledged the profound impact the young Indian cricketer has had during his time with the national team.
Adam Gilchrist commended Pant’s aggressive and fearless style of play, which has not only made him a formidable force but has also served as a source of inspiration for wicketkeeper-batters worldwide.

“I think Rishabh has inspired a lot of wicketkeeper-batters around the world to play that [aggressive] way. It is fascinating for such a young man to have such an impact that Rishabh has had, and others are responding and playing in that positive manner,” said Adam Gilchrist, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
In Pant’s absence, the Indian team finds itself well-prepared with alternative options behind the stumps. KL Rahul, who has demonstrated his prowess as a wicketkeeper-batter, is likely to take on the role, while Ishan Kishan, who made the most of his opportunities during Rahul’s absence due to injury, stands ready to contribute with his explosive batting skills.

Addressing this situation, the former Australian opener added, “They (India) are well stocked. They have got a couple of (wicketkeeping) options there; obviously, when KL was out with his injury, Ishan Kishan took his opportunity and played really well, and now they find themselves in the team together, so that’s a wonderful case of taking an opportunity.”
