Adam Zampa has opened up about his decision to skip IPL 2026, citing financial considerations and the tournament’s demanding nature as key factors. The leg-spinner, who went unsold after being released by Sunrisers Hyderabad, admitted that the IPL no longer offers him value proportionate to his skill set and time commitment.

Speaking on a podcast, Adam Zampa candidly explained, “For someone with my skill set, I just don’t get the money that is there for other skill sets. And for the amount of time that the IPL takes, it just didn’t seem like a reasonable choice for me.” His comments highlight a broader conversation around player roles and valuation in franchise cricket.

Despite featuring in five IPL seasons since 2016 and representing multiple franchises, Zampa has struggled to find consistent selection, playing just 22 matches overall. His highest IPL contract came in 2025, when he was signed for ₹2.40 crore, but he was never able to cement a regular spot in the playing XI.

Instead of the IPL, Zampa has opted to ply his trade in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026, where he is representing Karachi Kings under the leadership of David Warner. He revealed that the opportunity came up quickly and aligned better with his plans, adding, “I was going to have a break, but PSL was on the radar about a month ago. It all happened pretty quickly, but I’m enjoying it.”

Zampa’s IPL journey, though limited in appearances, includes a historic highlight. He remains the only spinner to claim a six-wicket haul in the tournament, achieving figures of 6/19 in 2016 while playing for Rising Pune Supergiants.

Currently in solid form, Zampa has already picked up wickets in PSL 2026 and continues to be a key figure in Australia’s T20 setup, underlining his enduring value in the shortest format.
