Over the years it has been heartening for the fans to see the evolvement of the game with the youngsters raising their standards. The ICC Under 19 World Cup 2022 has witnessed several youngsters representing their countries. It is just a matter of time for them to go on to represent the senior cricket team. The recently-concluded game between the Afghanistan U19 team and the Sri Lanka U19 team had witnessed a thrilling game and it was a treat to watch. Both teams had their fair share of moments.
However, in the end, Afghanistan had managed to get over the line. Sri Lanka was looking good to win the game in a low-scoring thriller but the Afghans pulled off a win from the jaws of the defeat. The 4th quarter-final of the tournament was played between Afghanistan U19 and Sri Lanka U19 took place at Coolidge Cricket Ground, Antigua.

Batting first, Afghanistan managed to post a below-par target of 134 at the expense of 10 wickets in 47.1 overs. Sri Lanka’s Vinuja Ranpul chipped in with disciplinary bowling performance. He was the pick of the bowlers for the Lankan team as he accounted for five dismissals in 9.1 overs including 3 maiden overs

Nevertheless, Afghanistan U19 bowlers made the run-chase quite tough for the Sri Lankan team. The chasing team struggled to get going and ended up losing wickets at regular intervals.

In the end, Sri Lanka U19 had plenty of deliveries in hand to finish off the job but they lost 9 wickets. They required 5 runs off the last 26 balls and they could have played cautiously to get over the line. However, Treveen Mathew was run out by the combined efforts of Nangeyalia Kharote and Naveed Zadran. As a result, Afghanistan won the game by 4 runs and reached the semi-finals.
