Afghanistan to host their T20 league from October this year

Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced that the inaugural edition of Afghanistan Premier League will take place in October 2018. The MoU of the tournament was signed o Thursday.

“It is a milestone as Afghanistan is now able to have an international league of its own. Afghanistan Premier league will provide a valuable opportunity for Afghan players to play alongside major names in international cricket, which will not only enable Afghan players to benefit from the league financially but it will also add as another revenue generating stream for ACB,” ACB chairman Atif Mashal said after signing MoU.

Every other major Test nation has their T20 cricket league. Meanwhile, South Africa’s Global T20 League will kick off this year as well.

ACB chief executive Shafiq Stanikzai made it clear that already-existing domestic T20 tournament Shpageeza Cricket League will go as it is.

He told ESPN Cricinfo, “Shpageeza is a domestic T20 league, and the APL T20 is to be played on top of it. The Shpageeza Cricket League will be played this year, tentatively in June.”
