During the one-off Hurricane Relief T20 Challenge match between Windies and ICC World XI at the Lord’s on Thursday, the World XI captain Shahid Afridi has disclosed his opinion to make a comeback in the international cricket.

During that game, former English captain Nasser Hussain asked Afridi if he considers making another international comeback.

With the smile, the former Pakistan all-rounder replied, “No that’s it. You can see my situation with the injury.”

In this game, Afridi picked up one wicket and scored 11 runs off 12 balls with just only four. With the ball in hand, Afridi dismissed Andre Fletcher (7 runs) through the stumping.

The match was organised to raise funds for rebuilding the cricket facilities across the Caribbean which were damaged by last year’s hurricanes. While all the players donated their match fees, Afridi donated USD 20,000 from his foundation.

The ICC World XI skipper received a respectful guard of honour after he claimed it was his final international cricket match appearance. 38-year-old all-rounder played 27 Tests, 398 ODIs and 99 T20Is where he scored a total of 11,196 runs and also took a total of 541 wickets. Afridi is still the most wicket-taker in T20I cricket.

Afridi said about the guard of honour, “That’s something I’ll never forget. For that to happen at the home of cricket, it’s massive. The cause was everything tonight, and to have been able to help, it’s fantastic. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported this.”

Coming to the match, Windies thrashed the ICC World XI by 72 runs. Afridi decided to field first after winning the toss. With the help of excellent battings by Evin Lewis (58 runs off 26 balls), Marlon Samuels (43 runs off 22 balls) and Dinesh Ramdin (44* off 25 balls) and an impressive late cameo by Andre Russell (21* off 10 balls), Windies scored 199/4 at the end of 20 overs.

In reply, World XI had a disastrous start as they were 8/4 in 3.3 overs. Later, they were bowled out for just 127 runs (16.4 overs) while Thisara Perera (61 runs off 37 balls) was the only man to reach the 20-run mark.

Windies opening batsman Evin Lewis was awarded the Player of the Match for his brilliant knock.
