Former Indian cricketer, VVS Laxman was known for using his wrists aptly and hence, regarded as one of the best in the business. His wrists were flexible to such an extent that he used to turn deliveries from outside the off-stump. The fielders on the leg side used to get a tad surprised as the leather mostly sped away to the boundary. He doesn’t possess enormous records like the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, but his numbers in international cricket aren’t something to be dismissed by any stretch of the imagination.

Laxman played for India in 134 Tests and 86 ODIs in which he racked amassed as many as 8781 and 2338 runs respectively. He made his Test debut way back in 1996 and he last represented the country in Test cricket back in 2012 against Australia at Adelaide Oval.

VVS Laxman’s ODI career wasn’t as good as his Test one as it lasted only eight years from April 1998 to December 2006. He has 23 centuries and 66 half-centuries in international cricket. His knock of 281 against the Aussies at the iconic Eden Gardens, where he bailed his team out of a losing position, remains to be one of the greatest knocks Test cricket has ever seen.
