Former Indian batter, Ajay Jadeja reckoned that South Africa will be expected to surprise quite a few teams in T20 World Cup 2022. The Proteas, under the captaincy of Temba Bavuma, are set to take part in a three-match T20I series against India that starts on Wednesday, September 28 in Trivandrum. The Proteas will go into the white-ball matches after beating Ireland and England in four out of five T20Is.
Talking about the same during a chat on Cricbuzz, Ajay Jadeja said, “South Africa is a team that could surprise a lot of teams in the World Cup and unfortunately, they are in our pool.”
South Africa is placed in Super 12 Group 2 along with Rohit Sharma’s India, Shakib Al Hasan’s Bangladesh, Babar Azam’s Pakistan, and two Qualifiers. Ajay Jadeja also opined that KL Rahul and Ravichandran Ashwin are the cricketers to watch out for in the upcoming T20Is against South Africa.
Elaborating the same, Ajay Jadeja said, “I think KL Rahul is someone to watch out for and will have a good series. South Africa’s bowling works perfectly for him. He didn’t have as good a series as he would have wanted against Australia. I also hope Ravi Ashwin plays because he is a man that I will watch out for. He could make a difference from India’s point of view.”
R Ashwin hasn’t played any cricket since India’s campaign in Asia Cup 2022, where he had scalped a couple of wickets against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. Rahul, on the other hand, amassed 66 runs against the Aussies at an average of 22 with a top score of 55 in the first T20I at PCA Stadium in Mohali. The 30-year-old Rahul also became the third Indian man after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to reach 2000 runs in T20Is.
