Former Indian cricketer, Ajay Jadeja has strongly opined that Afghanistan has the ability to knock out either India or Pakistan from the Asia Cup 2022 after their fantastic start to the campaign. Mohammed Nabi and his men have been performing quite consistently the surprise package of this year’s edition, as they first secured a comprehensive eight-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in their opening match.

On Tuesday, Ibrahim and Najibullah Zadran took the team over the line in a crunch situation against Bangladesh with the latter smashing a whirlwind knock of 43 in 17 balls to guide his team home with nine balls to spare. With the win on 30th August, Afghanistan became the first team to qualify for the Super Four stage of the tournament.

During a recent chat on Cricbuzz, as quoted by Hindustan Times, Ajay Jadeja fired a warning to big teams like India and Pakistan and suggested they should not take Afghanistan seriously. The former cricketer also went on to say that while bowling is the strong suit for Afghanistan, they have shown that they have firepower when it comes to batting and said that Nabi and his men can make comebacks from difficult positions.

Explaining the same, Ajay Jadeja said, “Teams should be wary when they play these guys in Super 4s. When you play these guys in the Super 4, I won’t be surprised if they knock one of the big teams off. They have the firepower, bowling everyone knows what they can do.”

He further explained, “Imagine either of the teams, India or Pakistan, is 20/2 or 30/2, then they won’t allow you to make a comeback. These guys have that ability. Now with their batting, they’ve shown that their openers can play in a certain way. So, if you’re an analyst for India or Pakistan, how are you going to plan, what are you thinking? They can come and surprise you and the rest of the team surprises even more.”
