As per the recent development, it’s been learnt that veteran Indian cricketer, Ajinkya Rahane, has been roped in by Leicestershire for the ongoing county season as well. However, Rahane is on the brink of turning 36 in four days, and he had earlier a contract with Leicestershire during the previous season as well. However, his participation did not happen due to the World Test Championship 2023 final against Australia, and a two-match Test series the following month against the West Indies as well.

The stint with Leicestershire in their County Championship Division Two campaign for 2024 is going to be Ajinkya Rahane’s second in England’s premier red-ball competition as well, having previously played for Hampshire in 2019 where he scored 307 runs in 13 innings as well. Meanwhile, The Times of India also reported about the news today but there were no further details that are part of the contract as well.

However, Ajinkya Rahane, who scored 13225 runs in 318 innings in First Class cricket had a poor Ranji campaign, despite leading Mumbai to the title after a trophy drought of eight long years since they last won in the 2015-16 season as well. Rahane, who led India to a historic 2-1 series win against the Aussies Down Under in the 2020-21 four-match Test series, managed only 214 runs in eight matches at a subpar which came at an average of 17.83 as well.

Meanwhile, among the Indian players playing county sides in the current season are Cheteshwar Pujara, Prithvi Shaw, Karun Nair, and Siddharth Kaul. While Pujara is playing for Sussex, the remaining trio are playing for Northamptonshire as well. Notably, Rahane and Shaw will subsequently join Mumbai’s pre-season camp, after their respective county duties.
