Ahead of Chennai Super Kings’ clash against Gujarat Titans (GT) on March 31, at Narendra Modi Stadium, veteran India batter Ajinkya Rahane has opined that he was not quite sure what Ben Stokes’ role will be in the season opener. Notably, the franchise spent INR 16.25 crore to sign the England all-rounder and it is expected that the all-rounder will play a key role for CSK in the tournament.
However, ahead of the big match, Ben Stokes suffered an injury to his left knee, and his participation in the opening game against Gujarat Titans (GT) was in doubt. Nevertheless, the 31-year-old is expected to play the match but may not bowl at all. CSK batting coach, Mike Hussey, recently confirmed the same and also mentioned that a call on his bowling will be taken later in the tournament.

Thus, Stokes’ role is undefined as he can bat anywhere between one and five. Speaking about the same, Rahane mentioned that CSK skipper MS Dhoni has everything sorted in his mind as he will use him well in the match against GT.
During a chat with Hindustan Times, Ajinkya Rahane said, “You will see that tomorrow how Mahi bhai uses him. It’s completely in Mahi bhai’s mind. He will use him really well.”
In the presence of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway, the 34-year-old may have to warm the bench for the majority part of the tournament if not completely. However, ahead of the new season, Rahane reminded me that he has always been an opener and would love to continue like that but he is ready to make adjustments if the team wants him to.

Explaining the same, Ajinkya Rahane said, “I have always been an opener. I have always opened the batting in the T20 format, so not much of a difference in my role. Still, whatever the management and captain asks me to do, I am always open to doing it. For me, it’s always about the team, so whenever I get an opportunity I will give my best.”
