The Indian deputy skipper, Ajinkya Rahane has known to have some closeness with India A, and U19 coach Rahul Dravid. He is also known to walk up to ‘The Wall’ when he needs advice on technique. The two cricketers have also represented Rajasthan Royals in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL). Ahead of the ongoing four-match Test series, Rahane played with a signed bat of Dravid and that is the bat he used for the Adelaide Test.

Dravid had written, ‘Best Wishes’ for Ajinkya before the series as they were together in New Zealand for the first of the three unofficial Tests. The wishes may not have worked as Rahane only managed to score 13 runs off 31 balls.

Ajinkya Rahane fell prey to a horrific shot of a Josh Hazlewood wide ball. It was on his sixth or seventh stump and Rahane did not have to play it, but he threw his hands at it only to get an edge which was taken by Peter Handscomb at slip.

Earlier in the day, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bat first in the scorching morning at Adelaide, India sent their right-hand batsmen KL Rahul and Murali Vijay to open the innings. With some accurate bowling and brilliant fielding efforts, Australian bowlers easily disrupted the opening pair who looked tentative on the crease.

India lost their first wicket in the form of Rahul who played a loose shot off Josh Hazelwood’s delivery and was caught by Aaron Finch at the third slip. Rahul departed at a meager score of 2 runs. After the stumps on Day 1, Team India was standing at 250/9 and a lot of credit for that goes to Cheteshwar Pujara who went on to score 123 off 246 balls.
