Indian fast bowler Akash Deep, fresh from his impressive performances in the India-England Test series, has found himself in an unexpected controversy — and it’s got nothing to do with cricket. Just days after proudly announcing the purchase of his “dream” car, a sleek black Toyota Fortuner, the 28-year-old has reportedly been issued a notice by the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department.

The reason? The SUV was allegedly being driven without a High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) — a violation of government regulations. Akash Deep had taken to Instagram to share his joy, posting pictures with his family and the new vehicle, captioned, “Dream delivered. Keys received. With the ones who matter most.” But it seems the legal notice has dampened the celebrations.

HSRPs, mandated by the Government of India, are advanced number plates designed to curb theft and counterfeiting. They include security features like a chromium-based hologram, laser-etched codes, and tamper-proof screws, making duplication almost impossible.

According to reports, the black Fortuner was spotted without the mandatory HSRP, prompting officials to take action. Interestingly, the issue has also landed the selling dealership, M/s Sunny Motors of Lucknow, in trouble. Authorities allege that the dealer failed to complete the mandatory registration process and deliver the vehicle with the HSRP installed.
As a result, the dealership’s licence has been suspended for a month, and it has been given 14 days to submit a formal explanation. The Toyota Fortuner variant Akash Deep purchased is reportedly priced at over ₹62 lakh, making it one of the most luxurious SUVs in its segment.

This hiccup comes right after Akash Deep’s stellar outing in the recently concluded five-match Test series against England, which ended 2-2. Playing three matches, he took 13 wickets, including a career-best 10-wicket haul in the second Test at Edgbaston — a performance that played a pivotal role in India’s memorable win.
