It was a memorable night for 23-year-old Akash Singh, who made an immediate impact on his Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) debut in Match 54 of IPL 2025 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the scenic HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. The left-arm pacer, handed his first LSG cap just before the game, wasted no time in proving his worth as he struck in his very first over, removing the dangerous Priyansh Arya.

Akash, who previously turned out for Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals in earlier IPL editions, was drafted into the LSG XI in place of Ravi Bishnoi. Tasked with opening the bowling against PBKS’s in-form top order, Akash showed poise and confidence beyond his experience.

On the fifth ball of his opening over, Akash delivered a length ball wide outside the off stump. Priyansh Arya, who had looked threatening in previous matches, attempted to punch it on the rise but could only edge it. The ball flew towards deep third where Mayank Yadav comfortably completed the catch. Arya departed for just 1 off 4 balls, giving Akash his first wicket in LSG colours. The young pacer celebrated in composed fashion with a confident ‘I’m here’ gesture, underlining his arrival in style.

At the toss, LSG skipper Rishabh Pant had anticipated that bowling first would provide his team an edge. He highlighted the slightly loose surface and expected grip for bowlers. Praising the team’s youth brigade, Pant said, “It’s good to see the youngsters stepping in. We wanted to keep things simple and keep conversations going, even when results don’t go our way.”

PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer, on the other hand, emphasized the importance of team spirit in tough phases. He remarked, “You can’t dwell on failures. We believe in enjoying each other’s success and staying positive. That’s our culture.”

With early breakthroughs and spirited performances from emerging players like Akash Singh, IPL 2025 continues to throw up exciting new narratives and talent to watch.
