Former England skipper Alastair Cook has climbed the mountain of 12,000 Test runs and became the only Englishman to achieve the same. After the post-lunch session in Sydney, Cook nudged a ball off his pads to get the landmark at Sydney Cricket Ground.
Cook holds numerous records in England’s batting chart and also holds numero uno position as an opener in Test cricket. He became only sixth ever batsmen to cross this line after Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis, Rahul Dravid and Kumar Sangakkara.
He has played 152 Test matches so far and has 32 hundreds under his belt. In the last week of December, he scored a glorious 244 not out at Melbourne Cricket Ground against Australia, which made him the batsman with the most number of runs while carrying his bat.
In the Test in progress, England is far behind hosts and heading towards another innings defeat. In reply to Australia’s 649/7 dec, Poms are reeling at 93/4 while skipper Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow are the men at the rescue.
