Alex Carey Feels Shreyas Iyer Can Become The Next Indian Captain

There’s no questioning the fact that Delhi Capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer has something special about him. For the last couple of years, before the 2019 World in England, the BCCI had kept looking for their perfect No.4 but only he emerged as a truly deserving player for the position after the ICC event. Iyer has finally settled ay the no.4 position for Team India.

Meanwhile, Iyer was also named the captain of the Delhi Capitals side after Gautam Gambhir stepped down the midway of IPL 2019. In the recently concluded IPL 2020, Iyer led DC to a wonderful start in the newest edition of the cash-rich league. Despite a few hiccups in the latter stages of the league stage, the Capitals reach the final of the tournament against the Mumbai Indians.

While Ricky Ponting and Shreyas Iyer could not win DC the IPL title, young Shreyas Iyer’s leadership has been a topic of discussion for a lot of people. In this light, his DC teammate Alex Carey has showered praises on his IPL captain and said that Iyer has all the qualities that could make him a Team India captain in the future.

As per the quotes in Hindustan Times, Carey said, “No doubt he’s got the potential to lead India one day. I think Shreyas is going to be a fantastic leader moving forward. His ability to connect with all the players in the group was fantastic. He took the focus off himself and worried more about the group.”

He further elaborated, “He’s been really successful for the last couple of seasons for Delhi. He’s still young and learning his crafts. He’s a fantastic batsman and a great person as well. To connect with every player in a big squad like Delhi is quite a tiring task but he was excellent in managing that. His positive attitude towards the game and his partnership with Ricky really worked well for us. The future is very bright for him.”
