If you talk about the best batsmen in the current era, everyone will name Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Joe Root and Kane Williamson without thinking anything else. But if you ask about the most accomplish batsmen in all three formats then only Virat Kohli makes the cut and AB de Villiers compete him here.

Kohli and De Villiers have been very close friends since their Royal Challengers Bangalore days. Talking about both of them, Alan Donald feels both are modern day great and can tear any bowling line-up apart on their day.

When asked, whom he will prefer to bowl, Donald named Kohli and reasoned his vulnerability outside the off-stump line. For De Villiers, he thinks he doesn’t give you any chance dictate the terms and exampled his counter-attack on Bhuvneshwar Kumar in Cape Town Test.

“I’d say Kohli because I feel from a red ball perspective if you bowl fuller and get tight on that fourth stump outside off stump, you can get him out. You can get more dots than you would with AB, which can frustrate him. He’s been caught behind before on that kind of ball and if his first 20 balls are there, he tends to find it hard to leave,” said Donald.

Both these batsmen are the most prolific run-scorer in the ongoing Test series involving India and South Africa. While South African maestro has 200 runs in four innings, Kohli stands second with 193 runs to his name in the same number of innings.
