Alzarri Joseph, the West Indies pacer, caused a stir during the third ODI against England in Barbados when he stormed off the field after a tense moment with his captain, Shai Hope. In the fifth over of the match, Hope opted to set the field according to his own plans, disregarding Joseph’s suggestions. Frustrated by this, Joseph lost his temper and bowled a bouncer that dismissed Jordan Cox.

However, he refrained from celebrating the wicket and instead stared at his captain, clearly upset. After completing the over, Joseph chose to leave the field. Although Joseph returned to the field an over later, West Indies went on to win the match by eight wickets. Despite the victory, team management was deeply displeased with Joseph’s behaviour.

Head coach Daren Sammy made it clear that such conduct would not be tolerated, and as a result, Joseph was banned for two matches. Cricket West Indies (CWI) Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe issued a statement, emphasizing that Joseph’s actions did not align with the core values upheld by the team.

“Alzarri’s behaviour did not align with the core values that Cricket West Indies upholds. Such conduct cannot be overlooked, and we have taken decisive action to ensure the gravity of the situation is fully acknowledged,” Miles Bascombe said.

Joseph later apologized to Hope, his teammates, and the fans, acknowledging that his passion had gotten the better of him. “I recognise that my passion got the best of me. I have personally apologised to Captain Shai Hope and my teammates and management. I also extend my sincerest apologies to the West Indies fans,” Joseph said.

Despite the controversy, West Indies secured a 2-1 series victory and will now face England in a five-match T20I series starting on November 9.
