Indian batsman Ambati Rayudu has had a phenomenal outing in the recently concluded season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and he had even managed to make a comeback to the national cricket team, but he failed the Yo-Yo fitness test which led to his exit from the national squad.

Rayudu has also been omitted from the India A and B squads for a quadrangular series; three Duleep Trophy squads and also India A squad for two four-day games against South Africa A because of his failure to appear for the mandatory Yo-Yo test. This is the second instance when he failed to clear the test.

After his mind-boggling performance in the IPL 2018 where he scored 602 runs at a strike rate of nearly 150, Rayudu was picked for the ODI squad for England series but was subsequently dropped after failing the test and was replaced by Suresh Raina who was there in the T20I series as well.

According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Rayudu, who played his last international match in June 2016, did not appear for the Yo-Yo test in the six-week time given by the Indian cricket board (BCCI) after getting omitted from the ODI squad and said he wanted more time. He hasn’t taken the test since then and now his chances of getting selected for the Asia Cup are demeaned further as the selectors have been asked not to opt for players whose fitness was not up to the mark.

Rayudu, who went to England with the junior squad of the Chennai Super Kings – the team he played for in the IPL this year – and has asked two weeks’ time to appear for the Yo-Yo test, hoping to make himself available for Asia Cup in September.

Meanwhile, it has also been learned that Akshay Wadkar was named as the replacement for wicket-keeper-batsman Abhishek Gupta, who was picked for the India Red squad for the Duleep Trophy despite facing a ban for doping violation till September 14.
