As the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) celebrated their victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, former Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians batter Ambati Rayudu seized the moment to take another jab at Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Rayudu, who has consistently trolled the Bengaluru-based franchise since their exit from IPL 2024, emphasized the importance of team effort over individual accolades.
In a conversation on Star Sports, Rayudu highlighted that while Virat Kohli clinched the Orange Cap this season by scoring over 700 runs, RCB’s journey ended in the Eliminator against Rajasthan Royals.
“Congratulations to the KKR team for really standing up for stalwarts like Narine, Russell, and Starc and also contributing their share in the team’s win. That’s how a team wins the IPL. We have seen this over the years. It’s not the Orange Cap that wins you the IPL but it is the contributions like 300 runs each from many players,” Ambati Rayudu remarked.

Ambati Rayudu went further to suggest that Virat Kohli should consider lowering his high standards to alleviate the pressure on younger players in the team.
“Virat Kohli is a stalwart and a legend in the team. He sets such high standards which put pressure on the youngsters to emulate him. So, Virat needs to lower his standards a bit so that the youngsters can be in a good state of mind in the dressing room,” he advised.

A few days earlier, Rayudu criticized RCB’s management, accusing them of prioritizing individual milestones over team success. He attributed RCB’s 17-season title drought to this flawed approach.

“My heart truly goes out to all the RCB supporters who have passionately supported the team over the years. If only the management and the leaders had the team’s interests ahead of individual milestones, RCB would have won multiple titles. Just remember how many fantastic players have been let go of. Force your management to bring players who will put the team’s interests first. A great new chapter can start from the mega auction,” Ambati Rayudu had posted on social media.
Despite Kohli’s consistent performances for RCB, the team has struggled due to a lack of support from other players and an inconsistent bowling department. Rayudu’s comments underscore the need for a balanced and collaborative approach to achieve success in the highly competitive IPL environment.
