Mumbai Indians’ all-rounder Amelia Kerr is making the most of her time in India during the ongoing WPL 2025, not just on the cricket field but also off it. The New Zealand cricketer recently took on the challenge of hailing an autorickshaw in Mumbai, with some help from actress Mithila Palkar. The duo shared the fun moment in an Instagram reel, where Mithila put Amelia’s street skills to the test.

“Mumbai never stops, and neither do the rickshaw-walas. You’ve got to go and stop one,” Mithila told Amelia. The confident Kiwi responded with an enthusiastic “okay,” but soon realized that catching a ride in the bustling city wasn’t as easy as it seemed. Standing on the footpath, she tried flagging down a few rickshaws for a ride to Bandra, only to face immediate rejections. “It’s not that easy,” Mithila quipped.

Not one to give up easily, Amelia switched tactics. She attempted the classic Mumbai move—heading straight to the backseat of a stationary auto—only to be turned away once again. But then, she played the ultimate trump card: cricket.

Telling an auto driver that she had a match to get to work like magic, and her ride was finally secured. Mithila, impressed by her persistence, joined her in the rickshaw, congratulating her on winning the challenge.

Amelia, now in her second season with Mumbai Indians, has been a crucial part of the team. The 24-year-old was instrumental in New Zealand’s Women’s T20 World Cup triumph last year and was named both the Player of the Tournament and ICC Women’s T20 Player of the Year for 2024.

Skipping New Zealand’s tour of Sri Lanka to focus on the WPL, Kerr has been a vital player for Mumbai, who have won two of their three matches this season. Under Harmanpreet Kaur’s leadership, the defending champions are currently second in the standings. They will next face UP Warriorz at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium on February 26.
