On Day 1 of the third Test between West Indies and Australia in Kingston, Anderson Phillip produced a moment of brilliance that stole the spotlight. The turning point came when Travis Head, attempting an aggressive loft over extra cover, miscued a full delivery from Justin Greaves. The ball hung in the air longer than expected, and Phillip, stationed at mid-off, sprinted to his right and flung himself full stretch.

Despite grazing his elbows on the turf, he completed a sensational diving catch that sent Travis Head back for a laboured 20 off 53 balls. It was Australia’s sixth wicket to fall in the pink-ball contest. Australia’s batting struggled once again, folding for 225 in 70.3 overs.

Steven Smith, who looked the most composed, top-scored with 48 off 66 deliveries. Justin Greaves impressed with the ball, picking up 3 for 56 in his 14 overs, while Jayden Seales mirrored him with 3 for 59 in 16. The remaining four wickets were taken by the impressive Shamar Joseph, who was also the most economical bowler with figures of 4 for 33 from 17.3 overs.

West Indies, in response, adopted a cautious approach in the short session before stumps. They reached 16 for 1 in nine overs, losing Kevlon Anderson for 3. Brandon King (8* off 26) and Roston Chase (3* off 14) will resume the innings on Day 2.

However, the Windies, under Chase’s leadership, will be determined to finish on a high and will look to post a solid first-innings total to apply pressure.
