Andre Russell, the flamboyant all-rounder of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will be plying his trade for his team in their opening game of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Back in 2019, Russell was the Most Valuable Player (MVP) as he delivered with both bat and ball, and helped his team to reach the playoffs.

In the IPL 2020, Dre Russ had missed quite a few games due to injuries and wasn’t looking in great touch as well. In the meantime, prior to KKR’s opening match against David Warner’s Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Russell has now decided to change his hairstyle.

Earlier, Aakash Chopra, the former Indian opener, said that KKR will have a lot of dependency on how Russell and Dinesh Karthik finish the games. Chopra also suggested KKR get Russell’s backup and the team roped in Australia’s Ben Cutting in the auction back in February.

“Dinesh Karthik and Andre Russell’s form will be critical to their success. Their batting at No.5 and No.6 has to be super-hit for this team to do well. They need a backup for Russell, a player who can do two things, ” Chopra was quoted as saying in a video.

Previously, during a chat with Ravi Ashwin in 2020, Karthik, KKR’s former captain, termed the 32-year-old Russell ‘an MMA fighter’ because of the latter’s appearance. Ashwin had asked, “How do you bowl to him? His miss-hit is a six with 8m clearance, decent hit 15m and a whack is out of the ground. As a captain how can an opposition bowler bowl to him?”

Karthik had replied, “First pray to God.  that he’s in a bad mood. Then the day, the wicket, the conditions (matter). Just watching him walk in is scary. He comes in like a wrestler. What a build-up he gives while doing that. He’s a brilliant character. With his muscles and all, he looks like an MMA fighter.”
