Australia men’s team head coach Andrew McDonald has shared on Monday, September 12 that they will focus on the end of the T20 World Cup before deciding on Aaron Finch’s replacement as ODI captain as well. McDonald has also said that the focus right now for Australia would be defending the T20 World Cup title at home.

Australia will next play ODIs from November 17 against England at home after the T20 World Cup campaign as well. Notably, Aaron Finch backed David Warner to take over the captaincy from him as ODI captain. On the other hand, Steve Smith had led Australia earlier too as well before he was handed a one-year suspension for the ball-tampering case in 2018. Meanwhile, Warner, however, has led teams in franchise-based T20 leagues, which also included the IPL after his return from the ball-tamper ban as well.

“I think CA (Cricket Australia) I think are revisiting what that looks like. He’s someone I’ve played under a few times for Australia when he’s had the opportunity to captain, and he’s been fantastic. He’s an unbelievable tactical captain and someone who at the time the guys loved playing under,” Aaron Finch said on Triple M radio.
