Former India skipper MS Dhoni is arguably one of the sharpest brains in cricket. His in-game assessment and the ability to make correct decisions on the field have given him respect way beyond his glovework. The spotless calls of DRS are what he is known for. The consistency with which Dhoni has gone about the business has literally won over fans, who have affectionately dubbed the DRS as the ‘Dhoni Review System.’
This one tag represents not only the belief in his decisions but also harks back to the fact that he has been through many years of experience and his acumen of the game. For example, of late, Indian umpire Anil Chaudhary was all praise for the decision-making abilities of Dhoni, underlining how close Dhoni is to being right on target with his calls.
Speaking on Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube channel, Anil Chaudhary said Dhoni isn’t right all the time, but his track record speaks volumes about his cricketing acumen. “He has a lot of ideas about the game,” Chaudhary revealed in reflecting on Dhoni’s razor-sharp instincts.

Anil Chaudhary confirmed the nurturing of the existing player, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant. On the same, he credited it to experience growth. He explained that a wicketkeeper is strategically placed and is best positioned to make any decisions since he views the ball trajectory.
He stated, “Wicketkeepers have got the best spot to keep an eye, and they’re still so they can follow the ball’s movement closely.”. He said that even the best at times borrow the keeper’s reactions in making their decisions.

Interestingly, Anil Chaudhary felt that Dhoni’s super decision-making skills could probably make him a good umpire if he ever decided to take up the job. “He can become a good umpire provided he’s ready to be inside the ground for seven hours,” He quipped, speaking about Dhoni’s composure under intense pressure.
MS Dhoni’s stature, both as a player and as a leader, grows, with his decision-making going to be another huge part of cricket folklore.
