As the India national cricket team prepares for a must-win Super 8 clash against the Zimbabwe national cricket team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, former India captain and legendary spinner Anil Kumble has issued a clear warning — do not underestimate Zimbabwe. India’s campaign took a hit after their heavy defeat to the South Africa national cricket team in the first Super 8 match.

The loss has complicated their qualification path, meaning the side led by Suryakumar Yadav now needs victories against both Zimbabwe and the West Indies cricket team to keep their semifinal hopes alive. Speaking on JioHotstar, Kumble stressed that India must stick to its natural attacking style while also respecting Zimbabwe’s recent performances.

“India need to play their natural, aggressive brand of cricket against Zimbabwe. But Zimbabwe are going to be a tough opponent, and they must be respected. They have delivered some strong performances. They beat Australia. They chased down 179 against Sri Lanka on Sri Lankan soil,” Anil Kumble said.

Zimbabwe entered the Super 8 stage with strong momentum after an impressive unbeaten run in the group stage. However, their campaign suffered a setback following a heavy defeat to the West Indies, which significantly hurt their net run rate and pushed them behind India in the standings.

Kumble also highlighted Zimbabwe’s key strengths, particularly their in-form top order and tall fast bowlers.

“They have convincingly beaten Australia. Their top four batters have been in excellent form. Their tall fast bowlers, Blessing Muzarabani and Brad Evans, have been outstanding with the ball, especially in the powerplay,” he explained.

With both teams fighting to stay alive in the tournament, Anil Kumble emphasised that India cannot afford complacency in such a high-pressure situation.

“India cannot take them lightly. They need to be at the top of their game. Any individual who gets going must make it count,” he added. “You cannot assume the next batter will do the job. In the T20 World Cup, there are no ifs and buts. You have to go out and deliver as an individual.”
