Mumbai Indian (MI) left-arm fast bowler Arjun Tendulkar conceded as many as 31 runs on Saturday against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 31st match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. His 15th over went for 31 runs, and the fortunes overturned for Punjab, with stand-in skipper, Sam Curran, Harpreet Bhatia, and later Jitesh Sharma, finding the momentum to smash 65 of the next four overs to take their total to an impressive 214.

After closing the game well against Hyderabad earlier in the week defending 20 runs in the final over, Tendulkar stuck to what he executed well against them, keeping his pace in check and pitching it outside off. Stand-in skipper Sam Curran managed to read the ball quite well and smashed the ball in the slot for six and then edging a four past the third man.

As the pressure piled on, Tendulkar missed both his line and length, going much fuller and paying for it against Harpreet Singh, who would hit him for three consecutive boundaries, the last of which was a no-ball. The next, a slower bouncer, also went for four.

The vibes and pleasantries were bound to come to an end. Arjun had been the difference-maker with a brilliant yorker to break Punjab’s early partnership. His errors have made a difference for the opposition this time. Arjun Tendulkar bags an infamous record as he becomes the bowler to concede the second-highest number of runs after Daniel Sams who conceded 35 runs in 2022 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for MI.

Mumbai Indians conceded 109 runs in the last six overs. Jofra Archer made his comeback to the side however, was ineffective in the game. Coming after a loss against the Royal Challengers Bangalore Punjab has posted a formidable score on the board.
