Punjab Kings’ left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh once again showcased his brilliance in IPL 2025, delivering a match-winning spell against Lucknow Super Giants on April 1. Playing at the Ekana Stadium, the 26-year-old speedster rattled LSG’s top order, picking up three crucial wickets, including that of Mitchell Marsh in his very first over. His early strikes set the tone for PBKS, who cruised to an eight-wicket victory.

With five wickets in the first two matches of the season, Arshdeep continues to be a key asset for his franchise. Reflecting on his performance, Arshdeep Singh highlighted the modern-day batter’s aggressive approach, which he believes works in favor of bowlers who plan their strategies smartly.

“Nowadays, batsmen don’t rely much on their defense; they just look to attack. That allows me to adjust my field accordingly. I had two slips and a deep cover in place, so if the batter went after the ball, I had my fielders ready. The pitch got better towards the end, but staying in the game till the last moment is crucial,” Arshdeep Singh told IPLT20.

Arshdeep has been one of the most consistent wicket-takers in the IPL over the years. He grabbed 18 wickets in IPL 2021, followed by 17 in IPL 2023 and 19 in IPL 2024. His performances have also translated well into international cricket, where he was the joint-highest wicket-taker in the T20 World Cup 2024, finishing with 17 scalps.

Despite his impactful spell against LSG, Arshdeep Singh believes he could have done even better, given the assistance on offer for seamers. “I feel I could have bowled better and conceded fewer runs. The pitch was helping pacers with extra bounce and movement in the powerplay. We could have hit the right lengths for a longer period, and the target might have been different,” he remarked.

So far, Arshdeep Singh has taken 81 wickets in the IPL at an average of 26.08, while in T20 internationals, he has already picked up 99 scalps, making him India’s leading wicket-taker in the format. With such form, he remains a pivotal figure in the Punjab Kings’ campaign this season.
