Punjab Kings (PBKS) registered a thrilling 13-run over Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 31st match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on Saturday at the Wankhede Stadium. PBKS pacer, Arshdeep Singh helped his team to win the game as he scalped 4 wickets in his quota of 4 overs. Along with him, stand-in skipper Sam Curran and Harpreet Singh Bhatia played a big role in the win.
After winning the toss, MI skipper, Rohit Sharma decided to bowl first. After being asked to bat first, PBKS set a target of 215 runs. Mumbai batters were 13 runs short to chase the target as they were restricted MI to 201/6 in 20 overs. Mumbai Indians conceded 109 runs in the last six overs. Jofra Archer made his comeback to the side however, was ineffective in the game. Coming after a loss against the Royal Challengers Bangalore Punjab has posted a formidable score on the board.

Sam Curran, Harpreet Bhatia, and later Jitesh Sharma found the momentum at the right to take their total to an impressive 214. Interestingly, it is the first match won by Punjab against Mumbai at this venue since 2017.
Coming into the chase, MI lost Ishan Kishan in the second over itself but, Cameron Green then made crucial partnerships with Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav of 76 and 75 runs respectively. Rohit, Green, and SKY scored the fifties went in vain after Yadav getting dismissed in the 18th over bowled by Arshdeep Singh.

In the last over, MI needed 16 runs to win and Arshdeep Sigh came to defend them for PBKS. After conceding just 1 run and bowling a dot ball, Arshdeep dismissed Tilak Verma by breaking the middle stump. He took a back-to-back wicket on the next ball as well when he cleaned up Nehal Wadhera. He then conceded just 1 more run in the over. Arshdeep also became the wicket-taker of IPL 2023 and became the new owner of the Purple cap.
