The Duleep Trophy 2024 has been heating up with intense competition, and Day 1 at Anantapur was no exception. A notable moment came when Arshdeep Singh, the left-arm pacer for India D, claimed the wicket of Riyan Parag from India A. Arshdeep, who led the wicket-taking charts during the T20 World Cup 2024, was eager to display his prowess with the red ball.

Singh delivered a ball just outside the off-stump that tempted Parag to play a shot, resulting in a nick that was comfortably caught by India D’s captain, Shreyas Iyer, at first slip. The opening day saw India D making significant strides, as they quickly took control by dismissing four batters within the first 20 overs.

The innings began with Karnataka-based pacer Vidwath Kaverappa making a crucial breakthrough by dismissing Mayank Agarwal, the captain of India A. Following this, Kaverappa also claimed the wicket of opening batter Pratham Singh, setting a strong tone for India D.

 

 

Riyan Parag, who entered the fray at number four, attempted to counter-attack. He aggressively struck five boundaries and a six during his innings of 37 from 29 balls. However, Arshdeep Singh’s experience in high-pressure situations shone through, earning him the vital wicket of Parag.

Tilak Varma, who came in at number three for India A, tried to anchor the innings but was dismissed by Saransh Jain in the 18th over, marking the fourth wicket for India D.

Both India A and India D are determined to secure victory, having both lost their opening matches in the tournament. They will each face the remaining teams in a round-robin format, with the top two teams advancing to the final to compete for the Duleep Trophy 2024 title.
