Punjab Kings’ pace spearhead Arshdeep Singh gave his team the perfect start in their second IPL 2025 match against Lucknow Super Giants at Ekana Stadium. Opening the bowling, Arshdeep struck in his very first over, removing the in-form Mitchell Marsh and putting PBKS on the front foot.

The dismissal came after PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer opted to bowl first upon winning the toss. Arshdeep kept it tight initially, conceding just a single off his first three balls. On the fourth delivery, he bowled a back-of-the-length ball that kicked up sharply off the surface, surprising Marsh, who could only top-edge it straight up. Marco Jansen settled under the ball and took a comfortable catch inside the circle.

Marsh had been in red-hot form, having notched up back-to-back half-centuries in the tournament. Getting him out early was a massive boost for Punjab, ensuring they got the upper hand right away. The early breakthrough set the tone for PBKS as they continued to press forward.

Lucknow’s struggles deepened as they lost two more wickets in quick succession. Aiden Markram looked dangerous with a brisk 28 but was castled by Lockie Ferguson, while skipper Rishabh Pant’s poor form continued as he fell cheaply to Glenn Maxwell. At 76/3, LSG had Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran at the crease, looking to rebuild the innings.

At the toss, Shreyas Iyer explained that PBKS opted to bowl to assess the new wicket and factor in potential dew later in the game. He emphasized the need to play with freedom and adapt to conditions. Punjab made one change, bringing in Lockie Ferguson for Omarzai.

Rishabh Pant, on the other hand, mentioned that LSG would have preferred to chase but was content with batting first. He stressed playing with intent and making the most of the home crowd’s support. Lucknow went in with an unchanged XI, hoping to put up a strong total.
