Arshdeep Singh bowled a fine show for India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. This left-arm pacer appeared in all eight matches of the competition held across West Indies and USA to turn out as one of the joint-leading wicket-takers with 17 scalps. His contributions came in handy for India to win the T20 World Cup title after a long time of 17 years. Soon after, the 25-year-old pacer from Punjab began to show a strong urge to don whites and represent India in Tests.
Speculations are rife that Arshdeep’s aspirations in Test cricket could well turn into reality soon. Reports suggest that he could be inducted into India’s Test squad for the marquee series against Australia later this year. India will tour Australia for a five-match series against the reigning World Test Championship winners.
According to a report by the Times of India on Thursday, the national selectors are now taking Arshdeep seriously for the Test team. “Discussion is going on for his selection in the red-ball squad and that quite signifies that this youngster pacer has a promising future in the game’s longest format.”.

“Arshdeep has impressed with his ability to move the ball effectively in white-ball cricket for India. He might be given the opportunity to play a few domestic red-ball games starting with the Duleep Trophy on September 5 to bolster his chances for the Australia tour. He could possibly be India’s trump card in Australia along with Jasprit Bumrah,” says a source close to the board.

The thinktank is now looking at options for one more left-arm pacer in the white-ball team, and that is why Khaleel Ahmed got picked for the Zimbabwe tour and later made it to the ODI and T20I squads of the Sri Lanka series.
