Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh, still awaiting his much-anticipated Test debut, has already been soaking in valuable lessons from India’s red-ball stalwarts. Having spent months with the Test squad during India’s five-match series in England earlier this year, the 26-year-old revealed that the experience from the sidelines was nothing short of transformative.

Among his biggest takeaways was a golden piece of advice from Mohammed Siraj, the series’ highest wicket-taker, which reshaped his perspective on the grind of Test cricket. India’s tour of England concluded in a thrilling 2-2 draw, with Siraj spearheading the pace attack in crucial matches, delivering breakthroughs when the team needed them most.
While Arshdeep didn’t make it into the playing XI, he utilised the tour as a unique learning opportunity. The left-arm quick explained that simply observing seasoned performers, coupled with in-depth conversations, enriched his understanding of the demands of red-ball cricket.

“In Test cricket or red-ball cricket, there comes a time when the day feels boring—especially in those post-lunch sessions when the ball stops doing much,” Arshdeep Singh shared with ICC. “Siraj told me that your ability to enjoy those phases determines your success in Test cricket. That tip really stuck with me.”

After returning to action in the Duleep Trophy, Arshdeep emphasized how training during his downtime had kept him sharp. His last competitive outing before that was the IPL 2025 final nearly three months earlier, yet he ensured his preparation never dipped.
“When you’re not playing, the goal is to push your limits,” he said. “I bowled thousands of deliveries in practice, increased my strength work, and managed my workload properly. Whether it’s the red ball, white ball, or pink ball, the approach remains the same—be ready and enjoy the game.”

With the Asia Cup 2025 around the corner, Arshdeep is expected to feature prominently, sharing the new ball duties with Jasprit Bumrah. His ability to swing the ball at pace makes him a valuable asset, and his recent exposure to the nuances of Test cricket could further enhance his performance in the shorter formats.
For fans, Arshdeep’s journey is a testament to preparation, patience, and learning from legends, as he inches closer to earning his maiden Test cap for India.
