Veteran Australia spinner Nathan Lyon walked out to bat against England despite being injured on Day 4 in the second Test at Lord’s. Lyon came to bat on Day 4 at Lord’s after Australia lost the wicket of captain Pat Cummins. However, Australia had lost nine wickets when Lyon came in the middle, having also taken a lead of over 350 runs.

However, Lyon was seen struggling to run a single and he was in visible pain after Mitchell Starc hit Stuart Broad for a maximum that was brilliantly stopped by substitute fielder Rehan Ahmed. And, after taking the single, Lyon took a bit of time to recover, which also showed a worried reaction from Pat Cummins in the dressing room as well. Lyon was later dismissed by Broad after scoring four runs off 13 balls and received a great reception from the crowd and his teammates as well.
However, Nathan Lyon picked up the injury while running in to take a catch in the final session of Day 2 at Lord’s. Lyon held his calf region after he stopped running for the catch of Ben Duckett in the 37th over of England’s first innings as well. Notably, his streak of 100 successive Test matches played for Australia is in danger as he looks unlikely to take part in the third Test, starting July 6, just three days after the completion of the second Test as well. However, Nathan Lyon became the first bowler and only the 6th player in the history of Test cricket to play 100 successive matches as well.
