India’s Test captain Virat Kohli has been going through a rough patch with the bat where he failed to score a hundred for quite a long despite getting a good start. However, once again, it happened against South Africa on Sunday where a poor shot saw him getting dismissed for 35 at SuperSport Park, Centurion. And, former India pacer Ashish Nehra believed Kohli will soon score a century.
Meanwhile, opener KL Rahul made headlines with a stunning century and remained unbeaten at 122 off 248 as well. Along with him, another opener Mayank Agarwal also scored 60 and they stitched a 117-run stand too.
“You expect runs from someone like Kohli. He would be unhappy with his performance. But if you look at the stats, Kohli has scored runs in the previous away series in England conditions. He has the hunger to score hundreds and double hundreds and he would be a bit unhappy with himself today,” said Nehra on Cricbuzz.

“Looking at the way he’s been dismissed, it’s a bit of concern. South Africa bowlers made Kohli play a loose shot and this has been a problem lately. Kohli has been giving his wickets to bowlers. Looking at today’s dismissal, we understand how Kohli has been out facing swinging deliveries aimed around the fourth stump. In such cases, you need the batter to leave those deliveries.. we saw that from KL Rahul today,” he shared.
“You expect Kohli to play those 135-150 kmph deliveries on the front foot but when the ball starts moving and gets bounce too, any player would face difficulties. We haven’t seen the Kohli whom we saw in 2-3 years but once he gets out of this zone, he will be unstoppable. But Kohli’s mentality and understanding of the game will help him score that much-awaited knock. He had scored 74 in the Adelaide Test against Australia this year and another such knock isn’t far away,” Ashish Nehra further added.

Meanwhile, Shaun Pollock feels that Virat Kohli would be ‘really, really disappointed’ and frustrated after getting out in a poor way.
Speaking to Cricbuzz after the day’s play, Pollock said: “Looking at his dismissal, he’s got to be really, really disappointed. He looked in such good touch; he looked so motivated; his feet were moving nicely. and he was getting in really strong positions. To have chased that delivery on 35, almost when he was in set and looked like he was going to get a big score, I think he must be sitting at the hotel pretty frustrated at the fact that he got out in that fashion.”
